PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What Is a Roof Cat Ladder?

A roof cat ladder is a fixed vertical steel ladder bolted to a parapet, wall, or roof edge for routine access to rooftop plant. Buyers also search it as a "ladder cat" or simply a cat ladder; the product is the same. Rungs sit clear of the structure, so boots and gloves get full purchase on every step.

Where a cat ladder roof run climbs past 3 metres, EN ISO 14122-4 and OSHA 1910.23 call for a safety cage, a guardrail, or a fall-arrest rail. We build all three. In our shop we usually default to a back-mounted cage above 2.4 m, then ask how the hatch or parapet finishes so the top step lands flush.

Each ladder ships flat-packed with a stamped drawing, a bolt schedule, and a weld map. No middleman sits between the drawing and the welder. You order factory-direct, so the price covers steel, labour, and coating — nothing else.

CODE COMPLIANCE

OSHA 1910.23 & EN ISO 14122-4 Compliance

Cat ladder rungs pull-tested before shipping

Tested before it ships

Batch tensile sampling on rung welds

OSHA 1910.23 rung geometry

300 mm rung spacing and 150 mm minimum clearance behind each rung match the U.S. fixed-ladder rule for new installs.

EN ISO 14122-4 fall protection

Cage, guardrail, or rail-and-glider fall arrest is engineered to the European standard for permanent means of access.

Verified ≥1.5 kN rung load

We pull-test sample rungs from each batch and keep the load report. Material certificates, weld reports, and test data travel with the order.

Third-party witness on request

For tendered jobs we arrange a third-party lab — SGS or TÜV, for example — to witness load and coating checks.

ISO 9001:2015 process control

Cutting, welding, and galvanizing run under our ISO 9001:2015 system, in place at the Shijiazhuang plant since 2003.

Duplex coating for coastal roofs

Hot-dip galv at 70–85 µm under a powder topcoat gives long service life on salt-air roofs. SS316 is the upgrade where wash-down is constant.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a roof cat ladder installed?
Four steps. One: set the stringers plumb against the wall or parapet and mark the holes. Two: fix with M12 chemical or expansion anchors into concrete, or weld cleats to a steel frame. Three: bolt the cage hoops on from 2.4 m up. Four: tie the top step flush to the roof edge or hatch sill. A stamped drawing and bolt schedule ship with every order.
When does a cat ladder roof run need a safety cage?
Above 2.4 m under OSHA 1910.23 for new fixed ladders, and above 3.0 m under EN ISO 14122-4. Below that, a grab rail at the top usually suffices. Send the rise and we size the cage or the fall-arrest rail.
Q235B or stainless?
Q235B carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized to 70–85 µm, suits most inland roofs at the lowest cost. SS304 resists rust on humid or coastal sites; SS316 handles chemical wash-down and marine air. We quote all three.
What documents come with the order?
Material certificates, weld inspection reports, galvanizing thickness readings, and the rung load-test record. Factory audits are welcome — book a slot and walk the line where your ladders are cut and welded.
